#aljazeeraenglish "Columns of smoke were rising over Mashhad, the second most populous city of Iran (in the northeast) after US-Israeli strikes near its international airport. Local reports suggested fuel stores were burning out of control.
Its current name means `place of martyrdom` in reference to the Imam Reza shrine, considered the site in Shiaism receiving the most pilgrims.
It later also became associated with Ferdowsi, the Persian poet and author of the Shahnameh and in the modern era with the poet Mehdi Akhavan-Sales and the traditional singer and composer Mohammad-Reza Shajarian.
Ancient Greek sources mention the passage and residence of Alexander the Great there in 330 BC."

* ‘BASELITZ NOW (JETZT)’ exhibition at the Museum der Moderne Salzburg
Hosted at Mönchsberg venue, it presents the haunting late oeuvre of Georg Baselitz, one of the most defining artists of our time. It gathers paintings in large formats from the past ten years, showcasing work that is entirely anchored in the Now: personal, vulnerable, but also of significant force.
‘The great success for me today is that I have flashes of inspiration that are grotesque. Sometimes they vanish like dreams. Sometimes an idea is so inescapable.’ — Georg Baselitz

After more than 50 years, Nasa is returning around the Moon on a 10-day mission, which will take a team of four astronauts further from Earth than any other human has in history when it orbits the far side of the Moon.

#guardian For the first time in 50 years, Nasa is sending people back to the moon.
The four astronauts of Artemis II will not land on the lunar surface, but the mission will involve flying around the moon, taking humans deeper into space than we have ever been before.
“It’s very easy to know when you’re in space because the main engine cuts out and that’s the massive jolt. It’s the biggest jolt of the whole launch; you’ve been kind of 8 minutes and 48 seconds travelling over 17.500mph doing quite high g-forces, so it’s a very violent experience being launched into space and when the engine cuts out, everything gets very peaceful very quickly. There’s suddenly very little sound, you don’t feel any motion, you feel weightless for the first time, everything is floating in the spacecraft and you have this amazing view out the window and that is a very sort of overwhelming, but also very beautiful thing to look at and that’s the moment you know you’ve safely made it there.
Artemis 2 represents a new era of space exploration, breaking out of low earth orbit once more, going back to the moon - this time, in a much more sustainable way, to look at the south pole of the moon, somewhere we’ve never been before, where there’s water ice, to set up a habitation module, where crews can go and live and work for months at a time on another celestial body and to learn the lessons, that we need to go to Mars. So, this really is us, you know, building on Apollo, but embarking on the next steps of expanding humanity’s presence throughout the solar system.”, astronaut Tim Peake tells Today in Focus podcast.
