#kcrw The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is complete. It’s taken decades of planning & eight years of construction to build the sprawling, 300 thousand square foot museum at Exposition Park.

It’s the brainchild of filmmaker George Lucas & his wife Mellody Hobson, who selected architect Ma Yansong to conceive the five-story building, that seemingly floats above the ground.

KCRW’s Danielle Chiriguayo took a tour of the museum with KCRW contributor Frances Anderton, who has been reporting on the architecture & design of Southern California, & as of late, is writing a book about the museum`s design.

“The once small highland militia has become a regional player with global clout.
Starting out in the late 1990s as a Zaydi shiite muslim revival movement in north Yemen, the group waged six wars against the government.
After Yemen’s central state disintegrated during the 2011 Arab Spring, the Houthis developing a relationship with Iran & its Lebanese ally Hezbollah, were able to seize the capital Sanaa in 2014, oust the government & halt a Gulf-backed political transition.
That prompted a Saudi-led military intervention, leading to years of civil war, until a 2022 ceasefire - it collapsed over recent weeks & fighting resumed along the old front lines: Marib & Jawf governorates in the north, the city of Taiz in the southern highlands, Dhale in central Yemen & the Red Sea coastal strip known as Tihama.
Last week, Houthis rapidly advanced into southern Tihama, capturing first the port city of Mocha & then, the rest of the Red Sea coastline & islands, now overseeing the whole shore of the 12-mile-wide (19 km) Bab el-Mandeb Strait.”
